Quick Tips on How to Write a Resume for the Life Science Industry

As a leading staffing and recruiting firm, Precision Life Sciences works with thousands of life science professionals and is often asked:

  • Should I use a CV or resume format?
  • Do I use a chronological or functional style?
  • Where do I list my skills and accomplishments?
  • Does Education come at the beginning or end?

With all this in mind as you embark on writing your resume, here are some tips that will help you put your best foot forward:

  1. Use a resume format if you are applying for industrial positions. CV format is more for academia.
  2. Place your contact information at the top – address, email, phone.
  3. Include a summary of career objectives and major accomplishments.
  4. Include a skill and therapeutic set section.
  5. Use a professional font and font size consistently throughout.
  6. Use bullets that are appropriately spaced to emphasize accomplishment and skills.
  7. List in chronological order, starting with the most recent position at the top.
  8. List month and year for each role, highlighting career progression.
  9. Proofread for spelling and grammatical errors.
  10. Education gets listed at the bottom unless you have less than 1-2 years of work experience.
  11. List any publications at the end.

A great resume can capture the attention of a recruiter or hiring manager and help you stand out from other applicants. The goal is to deliver an easily scannable document that allows employers to quickly see why you’re a good fit for the job.
